This print shows the dresses from 1905 to 1909. The models are named Phoebe, Zelda, Amelia,Elizabeth and Hannah. The print has "1905 to 1909 Fashions" written in pencil at the bottom of the print and is signed and numbered in pencil.
Wanda Pépin is a fine artist who has combined her love of fashion, especially vintage fashion, with her passion for art. Each print shows the year that the dress was in style. The dress has been chosen as the most beautiful dress of that year. Wanda's customers and fashion enthusiasts vote on the best dress for that year. Starting in 1910 the designer's name that influenced the dress will also be handwritten on each print. Each print is also signed and numbered by Wanda Pépin. All the women in this series are dancing. When hung together they look as if they are dancing with each other. I've chosen to paint a contemporary abstract background to go with modern interiors. I've also kept the flesh tones and faces muted so that each painting is all about the dress. The figures are elongated to emphasize the dress. This is a series about fashion and I want to keep the focus on the fashion.
