Spirit of the Black Dress MSFW 2009

My designer friend Claire and I have been working together on a collaborative piece for a competition held for this year's Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. My designer friend Claire and I have been working together on a collaborative piece for a competition held for this year's Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Back and forth between our houses this dressmaker's dummy has been shuttled with our precious cargo on board! Its been a labour of love, and we finally submitted it (at the very last minute, of course) a couple of Fridays back.

Applicants were assessed on originality, silhouette and texture, with extra credit awarded for sustainable production and materials.
We made it into the Top 10! YAHOO! They were looking for the top 10 designers who could embody 'the spirit of the black dress' and we are one of them :)

So, this is what happens next for the top 10 designs:
• Garments professionally photographed and exhibited as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Melbourne stylist Jordan Moore producing the photoshoot, photographer is Christian Blanchard! Yay!
• Gain media exposure and promotion in the wider artistic society
• Attend an Opening Gala

The other designers to make it into the Top 10 are: Andy Tsang, Alyana Eau, Kristy Barber, Leigh Buchannon, Michellle Czech, Nikolina Kucan, Noelle Kan, Rachael Cassar, & Sonya Kraan! Congratulations to everyone, and I can't wait to see what the other designers did for their submmissions! So exciting!

I don't think I can show you a sneak peek of what our dress looks like yet, but hopefully I'll be able to do that soon. I can't wait til we can show it off!
