New Years Eve Glamour

Michelle Obama has been credited with the continuation of one-shouldered gowns, wearing her captivating Jason Wu dress to the Inaugural Ball, and that trend has carried on throughout the year and right up into New Year's Eve styles. One-shoulder dresses and ruffled silhouettes are still hot for New Year's Eve, along with your traditional figure-hugging cocktail dress.

When ringing in the New Year, I recommend wearing sequins or sparkles, because if there is one day of the year that warrants a ridiculous amount of sparkle it is December 31st. Not that we girls need any excuse to shine, but if you need to make a case for wearing enough glitter to light up a runway at LAX, just remind everyone that it's New Year's Eve.

If you insist on staying semi-casual, jazz up your look with a pair of dark denim jeans, a white v-neck tee shirt and a silver, sequined three-quarter sleeve blazer with sparkly heels. Actually, the sparkly blazer is one of the holiday season’s must-haves.

For dresses, shimmering bronze and flashy silver are still the hottest New Year's Eve dresses. A soft champagne color would also be a perfect choice and great with any skin color.

This doesn't mean that metallics need to take center stage on New Year's Eve. You can wear black just as freely. But since it is a glamorous holiday, I would suggest adding some sparkle to that LBD with a shimmering accessory. Try a perfect pair of silver satin peep toe heels with an oversized bow cascading over the opening of the shoe, or a silver sequined clutch purse.

Royal blue, purple, fuchsia and pink have even been added to the typical winter holiday palette of silver, gray, gold and cream, leaving you with enough freedom to find your own holiday color. It's your holiday, so find a color and style that will make you shine.

This is also the night to bring out your most expensive jacket or (faux) fur wrap with your splashiest jewelry. Make your lips pop in a red or berry shade and add some volume to your hair with a holding mousse and a few curlers.

New Year's Eve is definitely one of those special nights of the year when you can go totally glam without having to explain yourself. So find your perfect dress and smile. Cheers!
