St. Patty’s Day, or: Any Reason to Party

It’s totally cool if you don’t have an Irish fiber in your body. This weekend is St. Patrick’s Day (yes, it’s a weekend-long event…and so are birthdays) and we love to be festive, so give us a reason, and we’ll go wild. Here’s how we’re kicking off the weekend of green, orange, and white.

It starts with a playlist…

If you don’t have a themed playlist for whatever you’re doing, then you’re not doing it right – but as you probably know, an overload of Irish drinking songs can get kind of old (plus, if you’re going out this weekend, that’s ALL you’re going to be hearing). So while you’re online shopping for a new green dress or making Irish potatoes, try listening to an Irish-themed playlist that doesn’t get too over-the-top:

Then, of course, the eats…

Now’s the time to pretend that Irish potatoes are a once-per-year treat that you don’t eat whenever you get the craving. They’re super easy to make, so whip up a batch to get you and your friends in the mood (or to put out on the table if you’re having a party!)

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ package cream cheese
  • Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 ½ cups shredded coconut
  • Plenty of cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients, except for the cinnamon, together in a bowl with a big spoon. Then roll them into little tablespoon-sized balls and roll them in the cinnamon. Put them on a cookie sheet and pop them on the fridge to help keep their shape. So good!

And the going out attire!

If you’re going to hit the bars, go to a parade, or attend a party, you’re going to stick out like a sore thumb if you don’t wear plenty of green. Also, this is the only time besides Mardi Gras that we’ll let you get away with cheap dollar-store beads as an acceptable accessory. Try these cute dresses and blouses for your fun-filled weekend:
