Brenda Abdoyan drew her first image when she was three years old. She has very little memory of the swan she drew; her stronger memory of the time is of the reactions from her family and friends. "I was born an artist.  I never really thought of myself as a designer, but it was something I always wanted to do.  Then in the throws of serendipity my art and the world of design somehow crashed into each other." 

 Brenda worked as an artist “who was locked into realism,” until she made an unplanned trip to the Middle-East in 2000 – a trip that changed everything.  “[F]rom that day, nothing has been the same.” Two things happened: she met her husband of nine years, and she had her first henna tattoo experience. “I had never thought about how or when, but I always knew I would travel to the Middle-East, throughout my life that particular region has called to me in one way or another,” she explained.

She was absolutely captivated by the intricate beautiful henna designs. “Once the ancient art of that portion of our world hit the surface of my skin I knew it would never let go.” She researched and experimented with “henna and all things henna” after she returned to the United States, and she began to incorporate the “swirls, curves and twisting lines of the traditional henna tattoo” into her art. 

 “My second epiphany was when I randomly ran across unfinished wooden bangles.  I was drawn to them (no pun intended) and the rest is, as they say, history.  Now you can find all my designs embedded in my brand 'Bajidoo.'  Because of Bajidoo, I have nearly lost my own name.”  She is called Bajidoo more often than she is called Brenda. “Now at Bajidoo we truly believe we are conquering the ordinary - one extraordinary hand painted bangle at a time.  Each design is hand crafted, some themed --some free for interpretation.  Some Bajidoo fine art bangles are tributes to lost loved ones and anniversaries. “

Brenda loves the creative aspect of her career, but she dislikes the administrative functions of the business. “As Bajidoo grows, the everyday business of business, becomes a double edged sword.  I love creating art, so much ---that the administrative functions of the business are distasteful to me.  That is where my husband has stepped in to be at the helm of the corporation. Bajidoo was incorporated in 2008 and our trademark filed for in 2009.” 

She acknowledges that every aspect of career or income can be stressful. “I am trained and Certified as a Project Manager, as well as a professional Sr. Business Analyst and a Certified Computer programmer.  I have held roles in each area of expertise… owning your business has its headaches but the rewards are beyond compare.” 

Brenda advises aspiring designers to be true to their creative energies. “I have to say that if there is one thing to share with an upcoming designer/artist, it is to follow your heart …listen to your passion… and the rest will come in due time.”
