Brandon Young

As a child, Brandon Young was not particularly interested in fashion. Growing up in Milwaukee, he wore uniforms to school, and his mother selected his clothes. He became interested in clothing when he entered high school; he noticed what other people were wearing, and realized that he would like to develop his own style. He acquired a job at a shoe company and became a "shoe fanatic." Eventually, he decided he was ready to make his own style. "So I put shoes, clothes, accessories, and a swag together, and started dressing, as dudes say, 'FRESH', and as females say, 'CUTE.'"
His new look garnered compliments from his classmates. "I was always the type of person that wanted to have something no one had whether it was shoes, shirts or even a book bag; I wanted me to have it and only me. As time passed, I got tired of wearing many different brands and told people I would come up with my own clothing line. Of course, many people, even my friends, didn’t believe me, because I was the kind of student in high school that kept everyone laughing (everybody thought I would be a comedian), but I was serious this time. To prove people wrong I started drawing shirts, jeans, and sweatshirts with designs and symbols on them. I showed them to people and that really blew their minds. I got so many compliments that people started asking me to design shirts for them." Soon, he decided to start his own label.
Brandon struggled to find a name for his clothing line. "At first, I couldn’t think of anything but my dreams and goals, but that is all I had to think about. Growing up, I’ve always had goals, dreams, and hopes that I wanted to make come true so I could take care of my family, but there was no guarantee unless I worked hard for it. Working towards those dreams, I knew I would come across hard times or struggles that might make me want to give up or quit, but that’s when I should fight through it and never give up. You fight to overcome those Big Dreams and with success come Big Money. It may take a long time to accomplish these dreams, but in the end it all pays off and that is why I decided to call my clothing line BDBM, BIG DREAMS BIG MONEY."
He is a fulltime student at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, WI, majoring in business with a minor in art. In the summer of 2009, he released his first line of clothing. His premier line consists of five different t-shirts for men and women, a pair of men's jeans and four adjustable caps.
Like many designers, fashion is an integral part of Brandon's life. "To me, fashion is more than a style or look, but a characteristic and type of emotion. Fashion is what keeps me on the edge of my seat every day, to see what new trend there are and the characteristics of people. With fashion, I feel like you can express how you feel in many different ways and show who you are as a person deep down inside. Fashion is what keeps people in stores buying the newest things that come out on a regular basis. It is a way of life and a love for me."
He enjoys the continual challenges of his profession. "There really isn't anything that I don’t like about my profession, but it takes a lot of time and hard work to be successful. You really have to stay up to date with fashion all over the world and know the new trends and the old ones."
