KhariAnne Kerr

KahriAnne Kerr grew up on a farm in Iowa and has been living in New York City for the past 6 years.  Along with an interest in fashion, she enjoys music and art. Her other interests include Veggie Burgers, Gwen Stefani, booties, learning, and creating things. Some of her dislikes are " Guys that spit in the subway, on the street or anywhere, also Wranglers, Crocs, Uggs."

She began designing fashion in high school.  "My senior prom dress was my first major fashion accomplishment. It was black with black/white zebra print details and tons of clear rhinestones. It was awesome!" She now designs for her own fashion line, Kahri.

Her enthusiasm for fashion is revealed in her designs, "Fashion is my life.  My collection is my baby, and I'm completely in love and obsessed." She draws her inspiration from several eras of music, including 60s rock/pop, 80s new wave, 90s alternative and some of today's melodies. She is also inspired by 1940s fashions. Some of her favorite designers are Stephen Sprouse, Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, Sass and Bide.

KahriAnne finds that one of her greatest accomplishments as a designer has been to continually work in a field that she loves. "Most people give up too easy, but I'll be doing my line till I die. Also, it's cool when famous people wear your stuff, but cooler when regular people wear your stuff."

Her biggest career obstacle has been the financial struggle. “Money, money, and oh, money.  Or lack thereof.  Also, boring people and yeah, the economy sucking for so long really bites hardcore.”  What she dislikes the most about her profession are people who are conformists, and those who are mean and fake.

She offers a mix of humorous and realistic advice for aspiring designers. "Get a rich Dad, some supermodel/it girl friends, grow some thick skin, and don't be boring!  If the first two are out of your reach (like they are for me), then you'll definitely need the last two."
