Washington Roberts was born in West Africa, where he was raised by his Grandmother, Beatrice. Beatrice was an expert seamstress with a master’s attention to detail and a steady hand. Young Washington adored his grandmother and was captivated by her “highly coveted seamstress skills.” He watched her carefully, absorbing and practicing the immeasurable lessons she taught by example. “Throughout his childhood, and to this day Washington's grandmother has always been the biggest inspiration for him.”

Although he was fascinated by fashion, Washington did not plan to be a designer. He earned a degree at Igbobi College Yaba in Lagos, Nigeria and then moved to the United States to earn a graduate degree in chemical engineering.

But his Grandmother Beatrice had influenced him far more than he realized. Washington began to design clothes as a hobby, beginning with a blazer that he wore to his own 23rd birthday party. The jacket caused a sensation, and served as “a wakeup call for the designer who realized that his true passion and talent was in fashion.”

Since his 23rd birthday party, Washington Roberts’ designs have been featured at many New York fashion shows, including NYC Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. His clothes have also been featured in several magazines.

Washington works with only the finest colors and materials. He describes his clothes as examples of “timeless style, feminine elegance and class.” His designs are created to flatter the female form and accentuate a woman’s femininity. He believes that women should always dress attractively, and avoid unflattering trends.

"Fashion is about creating your own style, knowing what works for your body. Finding few trends that you like that you can incorporate in to your own style. Women should wear heels everyday and look their best so that they can feel their best."
