Keren Recanati is the creative visionary behind Xanadu by Keren, a marvelous collection of upscale handbags and accessories. She spent her childhood years in Tel Aviv, then moved to the United States, where she modeled and performed as a magician and trapeze artist in a top Las Vegas magic show. Yet even in the midst of the glamour and excitement of her fast-paced career, she would find herself sketching shoes and handbags.

Keren’s lifelong interest in style and fashion was a natural springboard for her design career. “When I retired from my previous career, it was clear to me that I wanted to continue to do something that I love. Immediately, I began to develop my career as a shoe and handbag designer. I had the opportunity to go to Italy and to study in the best traditional places for learning that kind of work. I grabbed the opportunity and have been designing ever since.”

Keren believes the vision for her glamorous designs initially stemmed from her experiences in Las Vegas and her extensive travels, and she continually draws inspiration from “life” as a whole. Her fashion addictions are handbags and “massive rings.” She believes that every woman should own her “flipper” bag. “It’s a unique purse, it is chic and all of my clients of various ages buy it, because it’s just perfect!”

Keren has found that the toughest obstacle for an aspiring fashion designer is to be able to penetrate new markets and become known.  “Never give up,” she advises. “Cross any obstacle and remember that after hearing a hundred NOs, you will find the one who says YES. That could be your big break. Also, be pedantic with your work and never compromise on the quality of what you sell.”

She divides her time between United States, New Zealand and Israel. She designs from several studios around the world, and she also works from studios in each of her homes. She runs her company with a commitment to superior quality and outstanding customer service. Her goal is always to put the wishes of her clients first.
